Wedding Albums OR Family Albums

What happened to Family Albums!?

The other day someone asked me, “Why are Family Albums important?”

My question, “why wouldn’t they be?”

One thing I’ve noticed is that almost every bride and groom order an album of their wedding day. Wedding albums are so popular that a newly married couple will even get parent-albums to give to their parents. Then usually, from that point on the Mr. & Mrs. take iphone photos and mini sessions, get the images printed, shove them in a drawer, only to be put together in a scrapbook at some point in time. Don’t get me wrong, scrap booking is a fun and great idea. I would, however, like to challenge you to divert from thinking only in the “Scrap booking”-“Digital Files” way, even if just for a moment.

A Family Session with Kincannon Photography is your chance to create a memorable, fun-filled experience to remember. This gives you the ability to document your family doing something you guys LOVE doing together. This is so important because, when you think back on your time together as a family, you tend to only remember bits and pieces of an experience. What better way to remember the whole experience than creating a Family Album from it, just as you would your wedding day, right? We’ve had families create a whole session doing something that they enjoy, whether it’s camping and roasting marshmallows on the beach, or going to a drive in movie and enjoying popcorn. Your Family Session could be spent doing something you and your family absolutely love to do, which in return gives you the ability to create a custom, press-printed album that you and your family can look at as your kids get older and eventually hand down to them. The next thing you know.. you’re viewing that family album with your grand children.

The other thing that albums help to do is keep all of your images in one, consolidated location for anyone to pick up and enjoy at any point in time. Family Albums are the perfect conversation starter for any introvert or extrovert household and they go perfectly on the coffee table, kitchen table, shelf, or by your bedside to remind yourself of the love that your family shares whenever you want or need it. We absolutely love when our families get an album once a year as a way to document their family doing something that they’ve enjoyed doing that year together.

In short, every album has the ability to share a short and enjoyable story of a stage in life that your family is currently in so that you can have it documented for years to come to hand down as an heirloom.

So why is it that a wedding album is so much more important than a family album? You said “I Do” and your family grew. Isn’t that just as important?

Don’t you think your Family deserves more than a scrapbook that only shows a few photos for every year, and digital files that fade away? Just look at the Floppy Disks. Handing those down to grandchildren is so time consuming that why would anyone want to retrieve images off that? It’s a mission to say the least.

This is just me, thinking out loud, but this is why I believe Family Albums are just as important as Wedding Albums.
