how often should i get family pictures done

There are sets of questions that we get asked on a regular basis and this is definitely one of them:

How often should I get my family pictures done?

My answer: Once a month...just kidding

In all seriousness though, this is a question that seems to enter the heads of the families we work with and it’s a legitimate one. Without sounding like you should already know the answer, the question is really one of preference and importance.

There are some people who should get their family portraits done once a year and others who should get them done multiple times a year; what’s the difference between the family that should get it done only once and the one who should get it done multiple times? The answer is the number of important moments during the year that you feel should be captured.

Once a year tends to be the usual choice, but this is only a baseline. The real question is, what is it important for you to document?

That could be anything from a first birthday to a Christmas tradition and even just a warm, fun, summer day at the beach.

Think to yourself, what do I want to hand down to my children and my children’s children? What moments do I want to cherish when I look up at the wall above my family room sofa? Or, what memories will speak to me the most when I open up the album I’ve invested in that sits on the coffee table in the living room?

Once you start thinking from that place, then you will answer the question of “how often should I get my pictures done?”
