This last Sunday Jeremiah and I documented a fundraiser that was put on by the Santa Ana Police Foundation. This fundraiser was put together to help raise funds for the Santa Ana’s K-9 and mounted unit divisions.

On Sunday the fundraiser was filled with people, live entertainment, food, a silent auction and demonstrations by Santa Ana police K-9 and mounted units. Santa Ana Police Department and Nasser Entertainment also hosted the premiere of, “The Virginian” Starring Trace Adkins, a country music artist, and Ron Perlman, an actor known for several roles such as “Clay” Morrow in “Sons of Anarchy.”

Upon arriving at the fundraiser on Sunday, we met with Ryan, who was one of the PR people for the fundraiser. the foundation’s work to raise funds to support the K9 Division because 2 dogs are being forced to medically retire by the end of this year. He also told us about this sweet little girl, who after hearing a story about what was going on, decided to handwrite a note, and sent $10 in order to help raise funds and buy a dog a new protective vest. How sweet is that?! That story completely filled my heart with so much joy. I mean, I’m sure she could have spent that $10 any other way, but to donate it in order to get a dog a new vest.. that little girl must have such a big heart!

According to other information as well. SAPD currently have six dogs, however two of them are going to be forced to retire due to medical reasons.
It is said that an estimated $24,000 is needed to purchase and train two dogs, and equip them with protective body armor. Any funds raised over this amount will go toward the mounted division.
