Brian Smith was born in Australia with a love for surfing. Over time, Brian noticed that all of the cool trends were coming from California, so he decided to leave Australia and take off for California to start his own trend.

After a few months in Santa Monica, California, Brian still hadn’t found his passion.. that was until one of his surfing buddies arrived with the latest copy of Surfer magazine. Inside the magazine was an advertisement with sheepskin boots. Brian said he instantly felt goosebumps all over his body. Knowing that every 1-3 people in Australia owned some sort of sheepskin footwear, he never noticed that in California.

That’s when his idea was born. He went through his share of learning experiences and trials, with his million dollar idea. He hoped that it would be the next big thing overnight, but, as he said, “You can’t give birth to an adult” – a business needs time to grow, and become it’s own.

Brian Smith is the founder of Ugg Boots and has since sold his company and dived in to new adventures.
