Hair and Makeup for Photos
When getting professional portraits taken it is so important that you and your family look your best! Your hair and makeup is a big part of your overall appearance in the photos and it is essential that you look not only put together, but like yourself! It is so easy to want to go all out, but you don’t want to be looking at a picture every day that looks like it has someone elses face on it. Here are some tips to have you and your group looking fresh and ready for your portraits.
- Avoid flashback in photos! Steer clear of products such as HD setting powders and moisturizers with SPF. The oil in SPF moisturizers, and the oil absorbing silica in the HD powder make white light bounce off of your face at un-attractive angles that make skin appear powdery and patchy.
- Steer clear of glitter! If you’re looking for some sparkle, use products that have a modest amount of shimmer in them, but flecks of glitter on the face and in the hair reflect light and draw attention away from those beautiful smiles! If you use a shimmer powder, use a highlighter on the tops of the cheek bones, inner corner of the eye, brow bone, and cupids bow to compliment you’re features.
- Give yourself flawless skin! Use a full coverage foundation, concealer, and setting powder to create and even, matte skin tone, and get rid of blemishes.
- Liven up that face a bit! You don’t want to look washed out, so make you’re features stand out by applying blush, bronzing powder to contour, eyebrow filler, and lipstick. Apply the normal amount that you would wear on a daily basis, anymore can look too dramatic and detract from the people in the photo.
- Make you’re eyes pop! Define you’re beautiful eyes with a thin line on the top lid. Too thick of a line can over shadow you’re eyes, and liner on the bottom water line can make your eyes appear small. Contour you’re eyes by placing a medium toned shadow in the crease, a darker color on the outer edge, and a light or shimmer shade in the middle.
- Finally, lock it all in with a makeup setting spray. This will prevent smudging, and keep your makeup from shifting during the shoot leaving you looking beautiful all day!
Here are a few basic tips on how to have photoshoot ready hair!
- Always choose a style that flatters your face! Style your hair away from the face in order to to frame it and keep unwanted shadows away.
- Avoid stiff looking hair. Styling products are great to hold your hair in place, but use it lightly, and ones with a flexible hold to avoid crunchy looking locks.
- Stay away from complicated looks. Hair styles that are extravagant or too intricate will detract from the faces of the people in the picture, which is our main focus!
Voila! You’re ready to take on your photo shoot confidently and flawlessly!
