Why your head shot isn’t getting you clients and how to change that

head shot to get clients

We get the pleasure of creating beautiful head shots of some pretty amazing people, but there is a question, or rather a concern that we hear on a regular basis: “Shouldn’t I have a back drop for my professional head shots?” “Why would I have the world as my back drop? I notice that others who have professional head shots have a white or grey back ground. Shouldn’t I stick with something like that?”

All of these are great questions and concerns and it’s good to have these questions and concerns because is shows that you are wanting to present the best possible appearance of you and your company. Now, here are the reasons why you might want to reconsider what you’ve seen out there.

I firmly believe that a picture is worth a thousand words, so it would stand to reason that if you had a thousand words to tell someone about you, your business, and your brand, you would choose carefully, right? If your personal and professional brand were different and as unique as you, then you wouldn’t use the exact same words and grammar as someone else, wouldn’t you? Of course not. So if a picture is worth a thousand words, then you want to convey who you are and what your message is about. This is why so many speakers, real estate agents, authors, and many others are changing up from the old way of thinking. No more are they getting the standard grey or white background, posed, head shot anymore, because they recognize that if their personal and professional brand is unique, then they should have a strong visual representation that communicates their story and the uniqueness that is them.

Personally, I have seen a lot of business cards in my lifetime and a lot of them have the same posed picture. They are usually posed the exact same way too. Take a closer look next time you have a few business cards in hand. You’ll see what I’m talking about. Nothing about their image tells me that they are any different than any of the other people who have the same photo. However, the images that I do come across that have clearly been taken with a physical back drop, on location, or at a location that represents who that person is, have spoken to me and given me a little bit of an insight into that person. I tell you what, I would much rather work with someone who I feel a connection to as opposed to another cookie cutter person who just looks like everyone else. I hope this helps you and I hope you start to notice these things as you come across your next set of business cards. Have you noticed this already? If so, leave a comment below with your thoughts. We would love to hear your experiences and ideas.
