What does your headshot say about you?
Let’s start off by saying that there are many different types of headshots that you can get. You may need a headshot for your business, for marketing purposes, for acting, or for simply getting hired at your next outstanding job. No matter the course of life you are taking though, you always want to make sure that you’re putting your best foot forward.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: “If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what are your thousand words telling your audience about you?”
Here are some things to consider for your headshot, now matter what path you are headed down in your career or business:
– MOST IMPORTANT: If your headshot is over 2 years old, from the 80s-90s, or looks nothing like you (ie the person who did your last headshot photoshopped the heck out of your photo), then you need a new one…like today. So get it done, now. Ok? Here’s the link to contact us :)
– When you’re thinking of getting your headshots done, then consider the clothes you will be wearing. Most importantly, consider the audience to who you will be marketing your image. What do they want to see you wearing? How do they want to see you presented? For example, if you’re a Yoga instructor, you don’t want to dress up in a suit and tie. When your clients see that, it will confuse them. However, if you’re a lawyer, then a suit and tie would make sense. Does that make sense? Yes or yes? :)
– Body language is so important in an image because it communicates something about you to the viewer. If you are too posed, then it comes off as disingenuous and you never, under any circumstance, want to communicate that. If your first impression is communicating a fake personality, then why would they trust you to even pick up the phone and give you a call? As a professional studio, we make sure that your best self shines through in your images, so that you come off as genuine to all who see your headshot.
– Use your face! Just don’t use it poorly. Haha. Here’s what I mean: Use a genuine smile when you’re posing for the camera. Think of something funny and go with that. Too many people are too toothy or simply fake in their smile in front of a camera and it can come off fake or simply creepy in your headshot. At Kincannon Photography, we try to make your experience relaxed and simple, so that this is the last thing you should worry about, but if you choose to go somewhere else, simply remember these tips and it can help a little.
