5 things to remember when it comes to your family photos

Are you stressed because your child doesn’t like the camera? Or, have you just been dreading your upcoming Family Session? I know a lot of times it can be hard to rally up all the kids and get them excited to take pictures so we’ve took the time to write down just a few helpful tips.

Also,

When you book your Family Session with Kincannon Photography, we send you an online guide to everything you need to know before your session (this alleviates a lot of stress for your moms out there!)

Here are just a few of the solutions to Family Portraits and 5 things to remember for your Family Photos

5 things to remember

1. Bring the kids snacks.
At each Session we allow for up to 90-minutes. Not because it takes 90 minutes to get the perfect shot, but because it gives you and the kids a chance to warm up, and get comfortable. A lot of times kids don’t like being told what to do, and sometimes the younger kids can’t communicate what’s going on and why they’re unhappy. Therefore, snacks are a great incentive and peace-maker during your session. It solves the hunger cry and makes them comfortable.

2. Toddlers will be toddlers
This is a stage that you’ll want to remember, despite all the thumb sucking, blanky attachments and random tantrums kids throw, the key is for the photographer to be patient during the session. I always get complimented on how patient i am during sessions, especially when a toddler is being a toddler. That’s not to brag, but that’s to point out that there’s no reason to rush the session, sometimes you just have to let your kid, be who they are.. and sometimes that may mean to develop the session around the kid (within reason). However, when doing this.. you get those candid, photojournalistic moments, even if they aren’t “magazine perfect” they’re perfect, because we get to document exactly how your child is at that stage in life.

3. Toys
I normally don’t recommend it, but if a child will not part with a toy, it’s okay to bring it to a session, sometimes in the beginning a kid needs what keeps them calm and collected, and especially needs something that makes him or her feel secure. Normally towards the end of the session they relax enough to set the toy down,

4. Relax
Kids will be kids.
