How Should I Store My Prints and Canvases?

how to store prints and canvases

So, you just got done with your session, and you’ve ordered your prints and products. You’re so excited!

You’ve placed your beautiful, heirloom photos and canvases on the wall for the whole world to see, but you are left with a few pictures and canvases that you need to store for use at a later time. What do you do? What is the best way to store these precious memories of you and your family?

Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered!

Here are a few tips on storing your prints and canvases in case you ever run into a scenario that asks for it:

Storing your Prints:

  • Use PVC free storage
  • Mount on styrene (every one of our prints comes with this standard)
  • Use storage boxes (i.e., unbound albums)
  • Place the acid-free paper in between photos when stacking them on top of each other
  • Store in a cool, dark place, 68 degrees being the optimal temperature
  • To protect from water damage, keep storage boxes wrapped in plastic and stored up high, out of water’s reach

Storing your Canvas:

    • Store vertically, never horizontally because the canvas can start to sag
    • Store face-to-face or back-to-back to avoid the mounting frame from creating an imprint on your canvas.
    • If storing face to face, place a piece of acid-free paper in between.
    • Store in a dry place.

The best practice for storing canvas prints is to find an area to keep the stretched canvas print un-stacked and with a protective covering over the front.

At Kincannon Photography, we hope that this helps you store your most cherished memories of you and your family. Also, a special thanks to The Canvas Press Blog for the references to the above tips.
