When’s the best time to get family portraits done?

This is such a common question that we get asked all the time and I’m sure you’ve asked it to yourself at least once or twice.

So, when exactly is the best time to get your family portraits done?

You’re probably feeling like it’s a trick question…and you would possibly be right, because the best answer to that question is “Now”.

Let me explain. We are never promised tomorrow and being in this business for so many years, we have learned this the hard way. We have had clients who wished they would’ve done their family portraits sooner, but now, unfortunately one of them has cancer and is dying so they have to get them done while that person doesn’t look their best and doesn’t have any of their hair left. They kick themselves because they wish they could’ve captured that individual before everything happened.

Or, we have not so tragic stories of sheer procrastination where a family waits until November to schedule their session and then they are rushing at the last minute, have to endure cold weather, and fit in everything around the rest of their rushed, holiday schedule. In the end, they are stressed, rushed, and drained.

That being said, we always encourage all of our clients that no matter what time of year, getting them done as soon as possible is always better than putting it off until later.
