Picture Sticking to Glass | Orange County Photographer
Picture Sticking to Glass | Orange County Photographer
So, the other day we’re going through our pictures that are in frames, and we decide that it’s about time to change out the frames. As you can see from the pictures below, it was about time. We go to take the picture out of the frame and you wouldn’t believe what happens!
As we pull away the picture from the glass, the picture starts to rip! This confused the heck out of us, so we tried seeing what we could do to get the picture out and still have it preserved. We then noticed that it wasn’t just stuck in one place to the glass. Our picture was sticking to the glass in multiple places. Here we were, our beautiful family portrait that we had professionally taken, stuck to this glass.
Picture sticking to glass in just 6 months in a frame
I’ve had this happen a few times, by most of the time it was with really old pictures, not pictures that I had just put in a frame 6 months ago. I started to research on google, “why is my photo stuck to the glass” and many other phrases. I was surprised to see that this is a common problem.
Why is my picture sticking to glass
If you’re wanting why your picture is stuck to the glass, look no further. What happens is, the moisture in the air permeates the glass over time and will cause your beautiful photo to stick to the glass, thus causing it to rip when you try and remove it.
How to know if your picture is sticking to glass
If you look closely at the pictures below, you can see dark, wet spots behind the glass. That’s exactly what happened to us. So devastating. So, how do you prevent it from happening? Fortunately its fairly simple.
How to prevent my photo from sticking to the glass in the frame
What mainly causes your photo to stick to the glass in the frame is the fact that the print is pressed up against the glass, so the way you want to fix that is to make sure that all of your treasured photographs are matted, along with being framed. The framing alone, helps with protecting the image, however adding the mat element, you are now able to protect the image from moisture damage that can occur over time. This is one of the very reasons we at, Kincannon Photography decided offer matted frames with each print a family purchases. This way they never have to lose their precious artwork, or witness it being destroyed as they remove it from their picture frame.
Reasons to put your Picture in a Frame | Why are frames beneficial
- The sooner you get the picture in the frame the better, because the outside elements, like moisture in the air, etc. can start to diminish the quality of the image overtime.
- We always recommend using a professional photographer who will frame and mat all of the images you order.
